  1. Hi Sarai!

Thank you so, so much for your sweet comment on my blog! It really made my day!

First off, don't be jealous! I've worked like crazy for the past year to juggle everything. It's more hard work than anything else!

Second, its so great that you have the motivation to begin looking. I didn't know where to start either, but I can assure you its not all about who you know, although that certainly helps. I have a lot of family in fashion, but I have to much pride to ask for favors, so my experience has all come from myself! Don't worry about not knowing anyone!

As far as what I did, I actually ventured onto Craigslist for my first internship. I'm sure you must have some equivalent, where local businesses post listings! I just typed in 'fashion' and 'new york' and applied to everything that came up, because I had no experience. If you want to be a writer, like me, you should try to find an internship as a blogger for a popular website for your first gig. Mine as blogging for JoonBug.com. Your clips [from your blog] can be shown as 'experience'!

As for my next few opportunities, I used Ed2010 and FreeFashionInternships.com. I found the contact information for an editor from a past listing, which is how I applied to Life & Style Weekly. Nicole Miller and Elle were listed when I was looking, and by then I had enough experience. I sent over my resume, and that was that!

Again, I'm sure there must be some London-equivalent to those two sites. If not, reach out to a few designer's showrooms that you admire. You can probably find addresses and emails via Google! Getting an internship in a showroom is not too hard. You might want to start with a smaller brand, and work your way up.

Make sure you add your blog to your resume, and treat it like a job. Stress your organization skills as well!

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask! You can email me at: malloryinnewyork [at] gmail.com. Keep in touch and let me know ho it goes!! :)

PS: I'm opening a contest to win a free subscription to Elle on my blog tomorrow morning, so make sure you enter! :)
